WHATS THE ISSUE
The production of palm oil is causing major effects to not only the environment but it also has major effects on animal and human life. In order to produce palm oil, they start by clear-cutting parts of the rainforest and then burning all the trees. The burning of the trees is causing large amounts of carbon emissions into the atmosphere adding to the effects of global warming.
Many animals are being affected by this. The most impacted animal would be the orangutan. 25 orangutans have been dying every day for the past 16 years, that's 146,000 in total. Orangutans spend most of their time in the treetops so when the plantation owners come to cut them down they either die from the fall or burn to death and get trapped underneath the fallen branches.

As a society, we need to recognize the need to stand up and do something about these issues. Palm oil is in almost everything you eat and use. So, whether you know it or not you are contributing to these extremely negative effects on the environment.
Our job is to inform people of what's going on and why they should make a difference. Our goal is to remove all palm oil from Halton Catholic District School Boards schools and eventually from all schools in Ontario and even Canda.
